Reward case of the veterinary Royal School of Paris, 1780, Louis XVI era.

Twofold case ; red morocco ; silver braid. Gilded lace design composed of foliage and wreaths. Size of open case : 31.5 cm x 21 cm. Size of close case : 12.5 cm x 21 cm. On flap : gilded writing : ‘PRIX DE L’ECOLE ROYAL VETERINAIRE DE PARIS REMPORTE PAR M.CANU LE 24 8BRE 1780’ (24 octobre 1780).
Gilded fleur-de-lys in each corner. Silver clasp engraved with a shield bearing the initials CFC entertwined (key missing). On the back : gilded fleur-de-lys in each corner and gilded royal arm in the middle. Three fleurs-de-lys on both edges. Purple velvet lining ; gilded bullion and sequin. Case fitted with 14 instruments (some of which original). Good condition ; braid worn out round corners ; a few parts of the velvet lining ripped and worn out.
A similar but unidentified case was sold on 6th October 2001 at the Hôtel des Ventes de Chartres, lot number 117 ; it was published in colour in the catalogue, where it was written that only two specimens of this model were known. The present case is thus the third listed item.
