Le casque Adrian est probablement la coiffure la plus emblématique de la Première Guerre Mondiale. Ce symbole du poilu victorieux qui orne aussi bien les monuments aux morts des villages que les dessus de buffets ne verra sa gloire s’estomper qu’avec la défaite de mai-juin 1940. Son succès, à sa création, sera tel que de nombreux pays alliés en passeront commande, comme la Serbieeee, l’Italie, la Pologne, la Yougoslavie, la Roumanie, la Russie, la Belgique, le Luxembourg ou les Pays-Bas. Mais tandis qu’il sera progressivement remplace dans la plupart de ces pays peu avant la Seconde Guerre mondiale, par un modèle national propre, la France le préfèrera encore, lors de sa renaissance de 1944, afin de distinguer ses soldats de la masse libératrice équipée à l’anglo-américaine.
